The recent move I have experienced has been very smooth and without any problems. The movers had all the necessary things with themselves and were working carefully with each of the items we had. Overall experience is wonderful. This morning, I had a spectacular team a 2 man team Ramon & Pedro who absolutely were the 2 best movers I’ve ever seen!!! They moved with more assertiveness than any 2 man team I’ve ever seen & they made the work look like it was nothing. I would request & demand these 2 if I ever move, nobody to do the job anywhere better!!! American Van Lines customer service has been very helpful in resolving my issues. They have been patient and kind. Original Review: Aug. 4, 2026 This was the worst moving experience we’ve ever had. We hired American Van Lines to move our household from Washington to Alabama because we trusted them to safely transport our belongings. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from beginning to end. Our pickup occurred later than originally scheduled, and our belongings were delivered well after the contractual delivery window. Throughout the process, communication was poor. We were repeatedly given delivery dates that changed, promised callbacks that never happened, and often had to contact the company ourselves just to get updates. When our shipment finally arrived, the condition of our belongings was unacceptable. We found broken furniture, broken plastic storage totes, damaged boxes, and other damaged household items. Even more concerning, multiple boxes and household items contained mouse droppings and urine. We also found loose pasta shells inside boxes that we packed ourselves (we did not pack pasta), which should never have been there. One plastic tote had a shoe print on the lid, and tape that had been placed on our safe at pickup was missing upon delivery. After paying more than $11,000 for this move, we expected our belongings to be handled with care and stored in clean, secure conditions. That was not our experience. The overall cost and my initial conversation with the customer service rep helped me decide to go with American Van Lines. We did a room-by-room estimate of what we had to get a quote for our house move. The pickup and delivery crews were great. They packed up everything. From the initial phone call, the follow-up phone calls with the customer service guy, Tim, and my communications with the driver, everything was fantastic. But the moving coordinator’s communication was terrible. I was originally told delivery would be on Monday, possibly Tuesday, after our Saturday pickup. Since this was an out-of-state move, we took the week off from work so we could be there for the delivery. It ended up being Thursday, and they were coordinating additional deliveries that could have pushed ours beyond the week we had already taken off. If it hadn't been for a cancellation of one of those additional deliveries, we wouldn't have received the delivery during our time there. So, I credit the driver. But I was furious with the moving coordinator. He should not be in that position. I find it difficult when you're planning an out-of-state move, and you're not given a certain date for delivery. I understand things happen. There could be delays, but there shouldn't be delays created by the moving company, as opposed to delays for weather, maintenance, or mechanical issues. The moving process itself was excellent, but the logistics of the move were average. Anyone considering American Van Lines had better be flexible with their expected delivery date and have alternative plans, and potentially alternative living arrangements for delays beyond what is expected or anticipated. I did my research online and I compared companies. I decided to go with American Van Lines. There was continual follow-up when I would call them, ask questions, and ask for the quote. As we moved forward throughout the process, it was just continued follow-up on their part. It was very reassuring. The estimate was spot-on. Also every time I needed to add anything, I’d call them and talk to them about it, and they would tell me exactly what it was. There were no surprises. The movers were very respectful of our things and of us and our time. We did a cross-country move. Moved from NY to Florida. This was a horrible and stressful experience from the day they picked up our things.  It took 21 DAYS for our things to be delivered, even though when we signed with them we were assured that it would be much less time. During all that time, there was no communication from them unless we tried to call them (not easy to get someone).  They never gave a good reason for the delay either except to blame it on subcontractors they use.  We had to stay in hotels for two weeks. And towards the end they even tried to shift some blame on us!  Very unprofessional all around, including add on charges which seemed excessive.  We finally received our stuff in good condition. I have never left a negative review before, but after giving American Van Lines every opportunity to address our concerns, I feel obligated to share our experience. While the crews who loaded and unloaded our belongings were professional, courteous, and hardworking, my issues are entirely with American Van Lines as a company. Their customer service was, without question, the worst I've ever experienced. Moving across the country is stressful enough without the company you're paying nearly **$11,000** to making the process significantly harder. Before we paid our deposit, our move coordinator was extremely responsive. Once the deposit was paid, that communication completely disappeared. I called and emailed my move coordinator numerous times and never received a single response. I was also instructed to contact another representative to update our inventory before the move. Again, multiple emails and voicemails went unanswered. Because no one would return our calls or process our inventory changes, everything had to be handled on moving day. The moving crew then had to sit outside our home for nearly **three hours** waiting for approval from American Van Lines before they could begin loading. I eventually had to call customer service myself and complain before anyone addressed the issue. That delay was unfair to both our family and the movers. Communication throughout the entire process was chaotic. Calls to customer service were frequently disconnected, some phone numbers we were given didn't even work, and we repeatedly received conflicting information about our move dates. At one point I was told our pickup would be a full week earlier than expected. Later I was told movers would arrive on Monday, so I rearranged my work schedule and missed an important meeting to be home. No one showed up. Then I was told it would be another day. Ultimately, the company that picked up our belongings arrived on a completely different day that had never been communicated to us. We spent weeks trying to figure out what was actually happening because no one at American Van Lines seemed able to provide accurate information. Another major disappointment was learning that our move was actually handled by **FABRI Distribution**, despite being told during the sales process that American Van Lines was **not** a broker and that American Van Lines would be handling our move. That left us feeling misled. After the move, we submitted concerns and were told an investigation would be conducted. We cooperated fully and waited for the results. We have never received the outcome of that investigation, a follow-up phone call, or even the courtesy of an email.** It honestly feels like the company simply stopped communicating and hoped enough time would pass that we'd give up and not leave a review. The only reason this isn't a one-sentence review is because I want to give credit where it's due. The loading and delivery crews were outstanding. They treated our belongings with care, worked incredibly hard, and were the one bright spot in an otherwise frustrating experience. Unfortunately, great movers can't make up for poor communication, broken promises, scheduling issues, and a complete lack of accountability from the company managing the move. I cannot recommend American Van Lines based on our experience. If you're considering hiring them, I would strongly encourage you to read the reviews carefully and know that once your deposit is paid, the level of customer service may be very different from what you experienced during the sales process.
