The driver/movers were great, really helpful and easygoing. We had no problem with them: They are contracted by American Van Lines. The company itself has poor communications with their customers and are very hard to get a hold of when you have questions. Nobody explained the need for us to count boxes, or what size the standard box is, for our move. They had computer glitches that left inventory off our move. The banter was hilarious, and by the end of the conversation we felt like we’d known him forever. From our initial conversation their service coordinator gave us an honest estimate of the cost of the services which eased any worries about additional charges upon delivery of the items. The movers themselves were punctual and courteous taking great care in wrapping our heirloom china and large framed mirrors in thick padding. He and his team worked patiently and efficiently in packing the heavy garage tool chests and large lawn equipment boxes. They kept us posted by text message about their progress along the multi-state route and the things were all there undamaged, when they arrived at our new home. However the moving company American Van Lines took perfect care of all my things while they were moving them. First of all an agent who booked my order provided me with a comprehensive flat-rate binding estimate. During the whole relocation process the quote remained the same not a penny was hidden. Secondly a team of packers was extremely professional and skilled. They packed my delicate electronics equipment including two monitors a pc tower and an adjustable standing desk with exceptional precision and secured them in special boxes. They wrapped our heavy furniture and fragile glass items in wrapping paper and thick blankets so that nothing would break during the move. Finally I received regular updates from the driver about the location of the truck. All of my things arrived at the new place perfectly safe and exactly on time. The packing team turned up on time and worked at a blinding pace. They took great care with our valuables and delicates, wrapping up my daughter's entire nursery set, including the furniture, several flat-screen TVs and my son's disassembled backyard play set in thick blankets and plastic shrink wrap. When I called to book the estimate, the booking agent was very up front about costs so I didn't get charged any hidden fees later. On the day of the move, the team showed up on time and worked with a professional attitude. They took special care to wrap my delicate electronics and antiques and packed them with lots of other things in the truck quickly. Edward went above and beyond to make sure our move stayed on schedule during an extremely tight timeline. American Van Lines customer service has been very helpful in resolving my issues. They have been patient and kind. Original Review: Aug. 4, 2026 This was the worst moving experience we’ve ever had. We hired American Van Lines to move our household from Washington to Alabama because we trusted them to safely transport our belongings. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from beginning to end. Our pickup occurred later than originally scheduled, and our belongings were delivered well after the contractual delivery window. Throughout the process, communication was poor. We were repeatedly given delivery dates that changed, promised callbacks that never happened, and often had to contact the company ourselves just to get updates. When our shipment finally arrived, the condition of our belongings was unacceptable. We found broken furniture, broken plastic storage totes, damaged boxes, and other damaged household items. Even more concerning, multiple boxes and household items contained mouse droppings and urine. We also found loose pasta shells inside boxes that we packed ourselves (we did not pack pasta), which should never have been there. One plastic tote had a shoe print on the lid, and tape that had been placed on our safe at pickup was missing upon delivery.
