Why do Americans move so much?
The average American moves about 12 times during their lifetime. That means moving every five to seven years. America is a large country with an efficient labor market. Though state laws vary, the opportunities for employment and living in the country allow people to experience different lifestyles. Standardization means you can drive the same car, wear the same clothes and use the same currency in each state.
More than two-thirds of people who relocate remain within the same county. Nearly 85% of people who move stay in the same state. Less than 15% of those who relocate choose to move to another state, according to the US Census Bureau. The top three reasons people cite for moving long-distances are to be near family members, to improve their living situation or to accept new employment.

What is the history of Melissa, TX?
Melissa, TX, is another Texas railroad town that blossomed. When the railroads were built through Texas in the late 1800s, communities competed to become depots on the train line. The Houston and Texas Railroad chose Melissa in 1872. People think the town was named after a railroad executive’s daughter, but they argue over which executive.
The railroad came to Melissa a second time. In 1908, the Texas Electric Railway made the town a stop on its interurban line from Dallas to Denton. That effort failed quickly, and Melissa suffered a series of setbacks over the years, including a tornado in 1921 and a massive fire in 1929. Less than 500 people lived in Melissa in 1949. Fifty years later, in 2000, the city still had only 1,300 residents.
The estimated population in 2024 was 23,000, so the city grew rapidly in the new millennium. In 2004, Melissa Independent School District was created. Melissa High School graduated its first class in 2007. - North Creek Elementary – rated 6/10 with 3.4 reviews (812 students)
- Melissa Middle – rated 7/10 with 2.1 reviews (1,020 students)
